Watch Incubus Fight Themselves in ‘Absolution Calling’ Video
Incubus ended their long hiatus last month with the release of “Absolution Calling,” the first track off their upcoming Trust Fall (Side A) EP. Brandon Boyd and company have now shared the song’s music video, which finds the members of Incubus engaging in a gang war with… the members of Incubus.
Equal parts West Side Story turf war, the mods vs. rockers plot line from Quadrophenia and Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” video, “Absolution Calling” features a clean-cut, moped-riding version of Incubus beefing against their gruffer biker counterparts. As with West Side Story and “Beat It,” instead of fisticuffs, the fight ends in dance.
Trust Fall (Side A), due out March 24th through the band’s new label Island Records, will be the first of two EPs that Incubus will release in 2015. Trust Fall (Side B) is tentatively scheduled to arrive this summer, and together the two EPs will form the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. band’s first LP in over four years.
The new EP is Incubus’ first new release since 2011’s If Not Now, When? as well as the band’s first release since the expiration of their Epic/Immortal contract, liberating the band after nearly two decades on a major label. The band briefly flirted with the idea of self-releasing their new album last year before inking a deal with Island Records.
“We were lucky as a band in that the record label never lorded too much,” Boyd told Rolling Stone. “But there was always this sort of phantom presence. We want to make good art. I don’t think we’d make the music we make if we were lazy. So we don’t need that phantom menace hovering over us at all times.”
