Morning Parade Vent Frustration on ‘Shake the Cage’ – Song Premiere
Morning Parade seek out a life less ordinary on their new single, “Shake the Cage,” from the rising U.K. quintet’s forthcoming Alienation EP, which is due out on December 10th. Singer and guitarist Steve Sparrow said the electronica-laced, chant-along guitar anthem grew out of a sense of frustration.
The 26 Albums You Need to Hear This Fall
“Living in a tight, confined physical and mental space for so long does strange things to you,” Sparrow said. “I got bored of censoring and having to contain myself – I didn’t feel like I was getting anything genuine across, like I’d lost myself. It comes from boredom and frustration, of myself, patterns and repetition, of popular culture and of people and all of the nonsensical bollocks they’re concerned with, everything. All of the things I need, just so I have something to grind against. I just wanted to destroy everything and start again.”
In addition to Alienation – which also includes “Reality Dreams,” “Culture Vulture” and “Alienation” – Morning Parade spent the past summer working on material for their upcoming second album at the Maze in Atlanta. Producer Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Matt and Kim, Cee Lo Green) helmed the new LP, which follows up last year’s Morning Parade and is expected in early 2014.
Sparrow, bassist Phil Titus, keyboardist Ben Giddings, drummer Andrew Hayes and lead guitarist Chad Thomas first earned acclaim in the U.S. for their 2012 alternative radio hit “Headlights,” which led to a U.S. television debut on The Tonight Show and gigs with the likes of the Smashing Pumpkins, the Wombats, Thirty Seconds to Mars, the Kooks, Foster the People and Silversun Pickups.
