My Morning Jacket Abandon Limits for Next Album
My Morning Jacket have reconvened to begin work on their seventh studio record, and first since 2011’s Circuital, Billboard reports.
Frontman Jim James broke the news during a small show at Apogee Studios in Santa Monica, California, last night where he performed almost all of his recent solo effort, Regions of Light and Sound of God (you’ll be able to hear James’ set on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show on September 26th).
Where Does My Morning Jacket’s ‘Z’ Rank On Our List of 40 Great Stoner Albums?
“With My Morning Jacket we don’t put limits on anything,” James said. “[Producer] Joe Chiccarelli gave me great advice: Don’t make demos anymore.” This way, according to James, means that anything the band records could possibly make it into a new song.
A few months back, James told Rolling Stone the band was set to begin recording this coming October and at the time they were currently looking for new locations to record after using a church gymnasium in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, for Circuital.
“I’ve got a lot of ideas,” James said of the new MMJ tracks he had started working on. “I don’t know if anything’s come together yet. I’ve got a lot of starting places, I guess you could say.”
