‘World’s End’: An August Movie Worth Watching
Peter Travers takes on the dog days of summer this week with The World’s End starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The film starts with a group of friends embarking on an earnest mission: the pub crawl of all pub crawls. It’s an attempt to revisit their younger days, but the characters find their group dynamic has changed over time.
“As they go there, they don’t like each other,” says Travers. “Most of them have moved on in life – they have families . . . but not Simon Pegg’s character.”

According to Travers, Pegg’s character is “still trying to capture what all that youth was about” by seeking to return to the group’s glory days; listening to the old tunes, wearing (now vintage) band t-shirts and the like. The group bickers and berates each other, as only the British can do, before the movie takes an unexpected sci-fi turn.
“It’s hilarious!” says Travers. “I found a movie in the middle of August that you should actually see. Avoid all the other crap, and you can thank me later.”
