Watch the Director’s Cut of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’
Ever wanted to see more of the woman in the muscle suit or the girl in the white robe in the video for Nirvana‘s “Heart-Shaped Box”? Both get a bit more screen time in the director’s cut of the 1993 clip, which hit the web via EW as part of the 20th anniversary festivities surrounding the band’s In Utero reissue.
Inside Nirvana’s Rarities-Packed ‘In Utero’ Reissue
While this version of Anton Corbijn’s memorable clip been available on a previously released compilation of the director’s music videos (he’s also worked with U2, Depeche Mode, Metallica and many more), this is the first time it’s been made available online.
Corbijn’s director’s cut will also soon see release as part of a massive In Utero 20th anniversary reissue. Out September 24th, the deluxe edition will include a DVD with live footage, including Nirvana‘s Live and Loud concert, as well as three CDs containing a remaster of the record and a slew of B-sides, demos, live cuts and previously unreleased tracks, including the recently unearthed instrumental “Forgotten Tune” and “Jam,” both from early jam sessions and rehearsals that produced skeletons for In Utero songs like “Tourette’s,” “Pennyroyal Tea” and “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.”
Fans will also be treated to Dave Grohl’s first solo recording, “Marigold,” and the versions of “Heart-Shaped Box” and “All Apologies” produced by Steve Albini that were never touched up by Scott Litt, who was tapped to mix the LP. The reissue will also include copies of Kurt Cobain’s handwritten lyrics and new liner notes from comedian/director Bobcat Goldthwait.
