See Bob Odenkirk Freak Out in New ‘Better Call Saul’ Teaser
A new trailer for Breaking Bad spinoff show Better Call Saul shows actor Bob Odenkirk in action as the show’s titular slimeball lawyer. “You! Will! Atone!” he shrieks at a man and a woman dressed in business suits, only for the man to ask him, “What can we do for you, Jimmy?”
The show will chronicle the early evolution of Jimmy McGill (character Saul Goodman’s real name) as he becomes the conniving, outlaw attorney of Breaking Bad fame. Chronologically, it will begin six years before the events of its parent show.
In one scene of the new teaser, which arrives via The Hollywood Reporter, Jimmy’s brother, Chuck McGill (Michael McKean), says sweetly, “Money is beside the point,” but then it cuts to Jimmy being thrown on the ground bound with his mouth taped over. The next scene shows Odenkirk’s character telling Chuck: “Money is the point.” The clip also shows Jimmy in business in a courtroom.
The teaser follows a couple of obliquely mysterious clips that hint at the future Saul’s sleazy ways: one depicting the scene of a crime in a hotel room with sirens wailing as the camera pans onto a “better call Saul” Yellow Pages ad, and another showing a selection of “world’s greatest laywer” mugs, which he maneuvers in a cheap way. The only other action-based clip showed Saul getting into an argument with his future “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), who is working the tollbooth of a garage.
The show’s official Facebook also recently hosted a video of the first day the actors spent on set. Odenkirk and Banks join the producers in explaining the show in the four-and-a-half minute clip, most of which takes place in a skate park.
Better Call Saul is set for a two-night premiere on AMC on February 8th and 9th both at 10 p.m. EST. All of the show’s subsequent episodes will air on Monday nights.
