Blake Shelton Talks Tabloids, ACMs and Beauty Pageant Days!
Before country singer Blake Shelton became a chart-topping superstar and TV judge, Shelton took any chance he could get to perform on stage. One of those chances? A Valentine’s Day-themed beauty pageant in 1985 when he was just 8 or 9 years old! Cue the awwwws.
The eager mini Shelton bounced around the stage like a little Elvis singing Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” as the audience clapped along.
In an interview, Shelton told CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King, “Because I wanted to be a singer, that was a chance for me to be in the talent portion and sing. There was a spotlight hitting me and it was just this thing that happened when I was a kid and never got over it.”
And the spotlight sure served him well. This week, Blake Shelton’s latest album Based On A True Story… debuted at #1 on the Country chart and he is co-hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards alongside singer Luke Bryan this Sunday, April 7 at 8pm. Check back at Y! Music to see highlights from the show!
Blake Shelton also talked about the tabloid rumors (great promotion!), his wife Miranda Lambert (couldn’t live without her!), the ACMs (he can read!), and most poignantly, how he wants to “really slow down.”
When asked what he’d like to do before he turns 40 (Shelton turns 37 in June), he admitted, “the TV stuff [The Voice] is gonna have to stop, that takes up six months of the year… I just wanna get back to just doing nothing but country music.”
