Mayer Hawthorne Sees ‘Stars’ on ‘Kimmel’
Mayer Hawthorne took control of the outdoor stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, when he and his band played a pair of songs from their new album Where Does This Door Go. The group started with “The Stars Are Ours,” a high-energy tune powered by a big, booming bassline straight from 1977 that laid a foundation while Hawthorne shimmied at the microphone and jumped in unison with the band on the “Hey! Ho!” refrain.

Next came “Her Favorite Song,” on which Hawthorne crooned about a heartbroken woman who holds fast to her love of music, singing in falsetto over popping bass and atmospheric synths. Where Does This Door Go came out last month, and Hawthorne told Rolling Stone earlier this year, “This is the album I always should have made.”
