Nine Inch Nails Release ‘Copy of A’
Between rocking elaborate festival performances at Outside Lands and prepping a new album, Nine Inch Nails found time to offer the studio version of “Copy of A” for free download through Amazon U.K. Naturally, the Hesitation Marks track, which has featured in the band’s recent live sets, quickly spread. “Copy of A” is dark and reflective, and features the roundelay, “I am just a shadow of a shadow of a shadow, always trying to catch up with myself / I am just an echo of an echo of an echo / listening to someone’s cry for help.”

NIN leader Trent Reznor said earlier this summer that Hesitation Marks was heavily influenced by 1994’s acclaimed The Downward Spiral, and that it feels “sparse and minimal.”
Hesitation Marks is due out September 3rd. “Copy of A” will be available in the U.S. tomorrow.
