Usher Thanks ‘True Heroes’ Who Rescued Son From Pool
Usher has broken his silence following his son’s near-drowning earlier this week. “I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering,” the singer said in a statement. “I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being. I would like to thank my Aunt Rena [Oden] as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock.”

Usher’s five-year-old son Usher V was trying to retrieve a toy that had fallen into the singer’s pool when his arm got stuck in a drain. The boy is recovering in an Atlanta hospital thanks to the efforts of fast-acting rescue workers. “I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,” Usher said in his statement. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
In the wake of the accident, Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Foster, has reportedly filed legal papers to secure temporary primary custody of the couple’s two children (Usher won primary custody last year). According to TMZ, Foster argued Usher is frequently out of town and claimed her ex-husband failed to properly supervise Usher V near the pool, leading to the accident. Foster is also seeking the power to make decisions regarding the children’s education, healthcare, religion and extracurriculars. A hearing is scheduled for this Friday.
