Tom Petty Offers Refund for Shortened L.A. Show
Tom Petty has offered a full refund to fans who attended his gig at the Fonda Theater on Saturday, which was cut short by a fire marshal’s order, Billboard reports.
Petty and the Heartbreakers were 90 minutes into their set when the fire marshal made the decision that there were too many people crowding the main floor of the 1,300-capacity venue. Though Petty and some of his band tried to play off the order – even asking if a few hundred fans wanted to head upstairs – the marshal wasn’t having it, closing down the show after a performance of “Melinda.”

After conferring with the Fonda and Ticketmaster, a statement from Petty said that the number of tickets sold was not above the venue’s capacity. At the Fonda the following night, Petty said, “We had to quit a little early last night. I don’t like to assign blame, but it wasn’t me. I’m absolutely sure we’re going to work this out. If I have to pay it myself, everyone will be reimbursed.”
The rocker followed up on his promise and now refunds for the June 8th concert are available at the point of purchase; Ticketmaster has agreed to refund all ticket fees as well.
“The satisfaction of fans is of paramount importance to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers,” read a statement from the musicians and the show promoters, “and the band shares the frustration of the fans in attendance that evening who deserved to experience the entire performance.”
