Sea Wolf Explore California in ‘Old Friend’ – Premiere
Sea Wolf take a heartwarming trek through the Golden State in their new clip for “Old Friend,” from their album Old World Romance. The track’s smooth groove is underscored with a simple drum-machine beat that builds with delicate guitar fingerpicking, and the video is a similar sort of journey; it follows frontman Alex Brown Church’s trek of self-discovery through California.

“This video was a serious labor of love for me and for director Jeff Gardner. We did it over five or six days and nights, including an overnight camping trip outside of Santa Barbara,” Church tells Rolling Stone. “The song is partially about reconciling with the past while looking toward the future and was inspired by my return to living in California full-time. So it made sense to have a video that was about reconnecting and that featured a journey. . . Jeff had me traipsing all over southern California and kept saying, ‘This is going to be killer!’ but I just had to take his word for it because I couldn’t see what he was seeing.”
Fortunately, when the band watched the clip in New York, that vision was realized by all. “We were floored. It looked like a $50,000 video and was fucking awesome. Our budget was limited to make the video, so what Jeff did was pure magic.”
