Atoms for Peace Stream Surprise ACL Gig
Atoms for Peace closed out the first week of the Austin City Limits Festival with a booming set in the city’s Zilker Park, but for a moment it looked like they wouldn’t get the chance to do it a second time. This past Sunday, ACL organizers canceled the final day of the fesitval week because of flash flood warnings. But instead of calling it a night, Atoms for Peace simply took the show inside.
Thom Yorke, Nigel Godrich, Flea and the rest of the group holed up at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, selling tickets for just $10 a pop, and slinking their way through an exuberant set packed with tracks from their debut record Amok and, of course, plenty of Yorke’s beloved dance moves.

Above you can watch the entire show, which begins at the 41 minute mark and runs for a solid hour and 40 minutes. While the set was, of course, Amok-heavy – they open with “Before Your Very Eyes,” and offered up renditions of “Unless” and “Dropped’ – Atoms for Peace, like last week, broke out a few b-sides and non-album cuts such as Radiohead‘s “Paperbag Writer,” Yorke’s solo effort “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses,” and his UNKLE collaboration “Rabbit in Your Headlights.”
Atoms for Peace will close out their brief U.S. tour this week when the band plays at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on the 16th, and the Santa Barbara Bowl on the 17th. The group will head to Japan for a handful of dates in November.
