‘March of the Afrojack’ Heads to the Pool – Premiere
The March of the Afrojack series continues its wild parade in this latest installment, which finds the Dutch EDM superstar pool-party hopping in a whirlwind of DJ set debauchery with buddies Calvin Harris, Laidback Luke and Steve Aoki.
The clip kicks off with Afrojack, né Nick van de Wall, running into current Top 40 kingpin Calvin Harris and the two doing an impromptu back-to-back set of underground tunes. “Calvin is like the only guy that I hear on the radio that I’m like, ‘Wow,'” Afrojack says. “He changes the radio, that’s why I respect him so much.”
Afrojack Talks Making Music His Grandma Can Understand
Next on the docket is Laidback Luke’s pool party, with Afrojack giving props to the producer extraordinaire, who was also early mentor of his, before the two drop their own banging back-to-back. Then it’s over to Aoki’s pool party where the champagne flowed, the beats boomed and Afrojack proclaimed the Dim Mak honcho, “my best friend in music. I don’t know anyone I’m closer to in the whole music scene than Steve Aoki.”
The two go on to discuss their own friendship, with Aoki recalling their first meeting around 2009 and the track, “Show Me Your Hands,” that instantly came about from their first session together. The clip ends with some truly unique footage of “Afroki” – as the two so call themselves – swapping beats and working on what’s sure to be another raucous collaboration.
“Support like this is everything to an artist on the way up and he inspired me to want to give back in the same way to others,” Afrojack says of his EDM friends. “Now when I attend major shows around the world I take time out to meet with aspiring artists. My message to them is work hard, believe in yourself and never give up. I have the most incredible job in the world, I worked hard for it but it can happen to you if you really want it.”
