Stone Temple Pilots Alter Name, Ready New EP
Stone Temple Pilots have altered their name slightly for the release of an upcoming EP with Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington on vocals. Calling themselves, descriptively enough, Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington, the group will release the five-song EP High Rise on October 5th, Billboard reports.
Bennington first performed with STP in May at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles. The rest of Stone Temple Pilots fired singer Scott Weiland in February, followed by the band suing Weiland and the singer filing a countersuit.

Although Stone Temple Pilots haven’t commented on the name change, it seems like a response to comments Weiland made earlier this summer questioning his former bandmates’ decision to replace him. “I’m surprised they did what they did without checking the legality of it, how they just decided to go and use the name and go and hire another singer and start playing shows with a name that I still am an owner of,” Weiland said.
In addition to the EP, which will come out on STP’s Play Pen/ADA label, the band begins a tour September 4th in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. “For us the creative juices have just been flowing – we’ve been writing, we have tons of great ideas,” Bennington told Rolling Stone in May.
