Gwyneth Paltrow Puts Broadway Spin on Drake, Nicki Minaj With Jimmy Fallon
Gwyneth Paltrow added some extra glitz to Drake, Nicki Minaj and Big Sean songs during her recent Tonight Show appearance when she performed “Broadway versions of hip-hop songs” with Jimmy Fallon. Together, the pair hilariously schmaltzed up “Started From the Bottom,” “Anaconda” and “I Don’t Fuck With You,” respectively, as the host, who wore a red smoking jacket, tickled the ivories in a routine that recalls the show’s running Yahoo! Answers bit with Audra McDonald.
“Hey Gwyneth, what do you say we start things off from the bottom?” Fallon asked before they traded verses and even harmonized with one another for an upbeat performance of the Drake single. When they were done, the pianist proposed, “How about we kick things up a not with a little ‘Nicki Mineej’?” Then he launched into a particularly swinging version of the rapper’s ode to big booties, as Fallon offers rejoinders like, “It shouldn’t,” to Paltrow singing “My anaconda don’t,” ending on a low note. And finally, they decide to “go big” for the last number as they waltzed into the harmonized line, “I don’t fuck with you/you little stupid-ass bitch,” as Paltrow swung her hips and the audience cheered. They ended things with a fittingly dramatic finish.
In other Paltrow news, the actress recently sat for an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM, where she discussed the end of her relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. When the shock jock asked her if she predicted the phrase “conscious uncoupling” would become a meme after she used the phrase in the press release announcing the couple’s separation, she said she had just picked it from a philosophy she’d heard about. “It’s a very noble idea and it’s a great thing I think to try to do for your kids, and it’s working. But it is kind of a goofy term. And I didn’t’ know it was going to cause such a big thing. But having said that, it’s such valuable information.” Listen to the whole discussion below.
