‘Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack Features Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Beyonce
Beyoncé and Andre 3000 will partner up on a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann‘s remake of The Great Gatsby, which will also features music from Jay-Z, Jack White, Lana Del Rey, the xx and Florence and the Machine.
Jay-Z is producing and making music for the Gatsby soundtrack, which will reporetdly meld past and present styles of music. Gatsby star Leonardo DiCaprio introduced Hov and Luhrmann, and the MC will collaborate with composer Craig Armstrong (who scored Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!), as well as music supervisor Anton Monsted.

Along with Beyoncé and Andre 3000’s cover of Winehouse’s hit, the soundtrack will also features new renditions of pop classics including the Bryan Ferry Orchestra and Emeli Sandé’s new take on Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” and White’s version of U2‘s “Love Is Blindness.”
In addition to appearing on the soundtrack album, new songs from will.i.am (“Bang Bang”), the xx (“Together”), Florence and the Machine (“Over The Love”) and Del Rey (“Young and Beautiful”) will appear in specific scenes in the film.
“The question for me in approaching Gatsby was how to elicit from our audience the same level of excitement and pop cultural immediacy toward the world that Fitzgerald did for his audience?” Luhrmann said in a statement. “And in our age, the energy of jazz is caught in the energy of hip-hop.”
The Gatsby soundtrack is set for release on May 7th from Warner Bros. (pre-order for digital copies begins April 23rd). The film – which stars DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as narrator Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan – will open May 10th.
