Pearl Jam Prep CD, Tour, Movie
Pearl Jam announced that their new album, Backspacer, will be out on September 22nd. It will be the band’s first studio album to be released without a label. Target will be the only big-box retailer to sell the CD, although Pearl Jam plan to offer the record through online retailers, independent record stores and the band’s own website. “I believe the future is this kind of deal, where there have to be multiple platforms and players,” says Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis. The band debuted a new song, “Got Some,” on Conan O’Brien’s first Tonight Show on June 1st, just a week before Eddie Vedder‘s 14-date solo acoustic tour kicked off in Albany, New York.
Pearl Jam also have five dates booked, including stops at the Outside Lands and Austin City Limits festivals, and hope to launch a full-fledged tour around the time of Backspacer‘s release. In other Pearl Jam news, Cameron Crowe is preparing a film project about the group for its upcoming 20th anniversary in 2011.
