As Deadline reports, MGM has already started recruiting its cast and crew. Up-and-coming filmmaker Ryan Coogler (who won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Sundance Festival for his debut film, Fruitvale Station) will direct the project, and Michael B. Jordan – who starred in Fruitvale – is in talks to star as Apollo Creed’s grandson, a gifted young boxer who rebels against his wealthy family and seeks out the retired Balboa as a mentor.
Diehard Rocky fans should rest easy: Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as the title character. Creed is the first installment in the franchise since 2006’s Rocky Balboa, which was written and directed by Stallone.
