Rick Ross Features Trayvon Martin Witness on ‘I Wonder Why’
Trayvon Martin witness and friend Rachel Jeantel receives another flash of the limelight Monday, appearing on Rick Ross’s new single “I Wonder Why.”
An audio clip of Jeantel saying “creepy ass cracker” during the trial plays as the outro of the first single from Ross’s forthcoming Mastermind album.
During the song, Ross makes a few references related to the trial that found George Zimmerman not guilty. He cites Jeantel’s description of Zimmerman, the Stand Your Ground law and a hoody, the latter item of clothing has been used by protestors as a symbol of unjust racial profiling.
Ross raps, “Now, I’m being followed by a creepy ass cracker. Now, I’m being followed by a creepy as cracker. Stand your ground, stand your ground. You got to stand your ground. Got on my hoody and my mother—king desert eagle.”
Jeantel, who spoke to Martin via phone minutes before he was fatally shot by Zimmerman, said the 17-year-old boy described Zimmerman as a “creepy ass cracker” who was following him. Jeantel said cracker was slang for a fake police officer.

Jeantel, whose testimony sparked public scrutiny primarily because of her poor speech, has appeared on CNN talk shows Piers Morgan Live and Nancy Grace, and a full college scholarship from syndicated radio hot Tom Joyner.
Earlier this year, Ross sparked controversy and made headlines for making light of date rape in a lyric on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” It ultimately cost him a Reebok endorsement deal.
