Justin Timberlake Teases Part Two of ’20/20 Experience’
If the ‘NSync reunion at the VMAs last night got you all hot and bothered for more Justin Timberlake, don’t worry, he knows: The pop star is gearing up for the September 30th release of part two of The 20/20 Experience, and today he posted a note to his fans on his website, along with a short video about the making of the record.
The two-minute clip features behind-the-scenes footage of the album coming together over just 20 days, along with Timberlake talking with producer and longtime collaborator Timbaland about why making 20/20 was different from their past projects.

“We usually take our time, and I felt like it would drive the creativity in a different way to feel like we had to sprint every day, and it would hyper-focus us,” Timberlake says of the quick pace of recording.
In the letter accompanying the video, Timberlake said that the songs on both halves of The 20/20 Experience were all written together over a year ago. When he initially reached out to Timbaland, Timberlake recalls telling the producer he didn’t want to make an album, so much as just go for it and see what they came up with. Enlisting a cast of talented, forward-thinking musicians, Timberlake says the record came together in an environment that had him entering the studio each day feeling the perfect mix of giddiness and hyper-focus.
“If you’re lucky enough to have the ability to wait and do it when it inspires you, then you owe it to yourself to do it when it’s the only thing you can think about when you wake up in the middle of the night,” Timberlake says in the clip, ostensibly referencing his long hiatus from music. “That sense of desperation, that’s what brings out passion. And really passion, to me, is all that matters.”
