LeAnn Rimes Debuts Angry Performance of ‘Spitfire’; Denies It’s About Brandi Glanville
Tired of hearing LeAnn Rimes discuss her affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian? You definitely aren’t alone. However, the singer delivered yet another missive on the topic Tuesday–this time an enjoyable one–when she debuted the song “Spitfire” on the “Tonight Show.”
Although Rimes demurs that “Spitfire” is not about Cibrian’s ex, reality star Brandi Glanville, whom she’s had a contentious (to say the least) relationship with over the past few years, the tune’s lyrics suggest otherwise: “I only got one burning desire/To let the whole town know that you’re a dirty little liar/I ain’t gonna get stuck in your muck and mire.”
Rimes points out that she didn’t name any names in the song, and told the Hollywood Reporter that a tabloid story had gotten her all heated up the day she recorded it.
Whether it’s about Glanville or not, Rimes showed she’s clearly not lost one iota of her musical chops. Her fiery performance supported the glowing reviews that have been circulating of her new album (also titled Spitfire), which dropped on Monday.
On the new set, Rimes exhaustively chronicles relationship issues, and many of the songs can be easily related to the characters in her well-publicized divorce. However, fans of her classic material will no doubt be pleased with the solidly Nashville sound on Nashville–and perhaps agree with the Hollywood Reporter, which called it “the best country record of the year.”
