Tegan and Sara, Machine Gun Kelly to Co-Host mtvU Woodie Awards
Indie pop’s favorite sister duo Tegan and Sara will co-host the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards alongside Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly, with the show set to air on MTV and mtvU on March 17th at 8 p.m.
The show itself will take place in Austin on March 14th during SXSW, and will feature performances from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, as well as twenty one pilots, who scored a nomination for the “Breaking Woodie” award.

Along with their hosting duties, Tegan and Sara – who just released their latest effort, Heartthrob – are up for the “Tag Team Woodie” for “Body Work,” their collaboration with Morgan Page. “This will be our first time at the mtvU Woodie Awards, so we couldn’t be more excited to be making our debut as co-hosts and nominees for the ‘Tag Team Woodie,'” the duo said in a statement. “It’s a good thing they got Machine Gun Kelly to step in as our tri-host, because no one else would be able to get a word in edgewise.”
The rapper said he’s shaking off disbelief that he was asked to particiate. “I think the first thing we all are thinking is, ‘Wow, I can’t believe MTV trusted MGK to actually co-host something like this,’ and then the second thought is, ‘Fuck yeah MTV for trusting MGK to co-host something like this!'” said Machine Gun Kelly, who took home last year’s Breaking Woodie. “The only thing I’ve ever hosted was parties so it looks like this year will have to be a party!”
Leading up to the awards show, mtvU will also host the aptly dubbed “Woodie Awards Festival” in Austin, which just added HAIM and Timeflies to their lineup, with other performances from Alt-J, Jake Bugg, Joey Badass, Trinidad James and more.
