The To Do List
If you're all about hand jobs, blow jobs and finger-banging, you can't do better than the deliciously dirty fun of The To Do List. Maggie Carey scores a smashing feature debut as writer and director by kicking the teen sex comedy in its dumb ass. How so? By serving serving the raunch straight up and, best, making it about a girl. Brandy, as played with deadpan dazzle by the glorious Aubrey Plaza, knows dick about dick. So this virginal high school valedictorian, circa 1993, sets out with clinical precision to compile a sex to-do list. Though Brandy leans on two advisers (Alia Shawkat, Sarah Steele), she has no romantic illusions. At a summer job at a pool run by Willy (the riotous Bill Hader, Carey's husband), Brandy uses a stud (Scott Porter) and a sweetie (Johnny Simmons) as carnal fodder. Does Carey go too far? Duh. But why gripe when you can't stop laughing?
