Weekend Rock Question: What Is Your Favorite Debut Album of All Time?
Last week, we posted our list of the 100 Greatest Debut Albums Of All Time in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ Please Please Me. Not everyone loved the list, arguing that King Crimson‘s In The Court of the Crimson King, Nirvana‘s Bleach, Smashing Pumpkins’ Gish and many others should have made it. The fact that Led Zeppelin‘s debut was at number seventy-two also seemed to upset many readers, even though we noted that “albums got docked points if the artists went on to far greater achievements.”
Now it’s your turn. Vote for your favorite debut album right here. We skipped solo debuts by artists from established groups (Paul Simon, John Lennon), but feel free to break that rule. You can pick albums that made our list, or ones we didn’t include. The field is wide open. The only rule is that it needs to be a legitimate debut album. Just please only vote once, and only for a single album. Also, resist the temptation to organize a fan campaign to flood the ballot box with votes for your favorite artist. We’ll be highly suspicious if Justin Guarini’s 2003 debut somehow gets 8,000 votes.
