Lady Gaga Hits the Runway in ‘Applause’ Lyric Clip
After Lady Gaga released her new song “Applause” this week in a “pop emergency,” the singer quickly followed it with a lyric video for the track. The words appear onscreen in script over what looks like a raucous drag show taking place in the background. Performers clad in lingerie and slinky dresses strut back and forth in front of a pumped-up crowd cheering wildly – applause, indeed.
The song is the first single from Gaga’s upcoming album ARTPOP, which is due November 11th. Along with releasing “Applause” on Monday, a week earlier than she had intended (to combat leaks), Gaga posted a video this week that seemed to anticipate a critical backlash by pairing the sound of jeers with unkind onscreen sentiments, including “Lady Gaga is no longer relevant” and “Ever since Born This Way she’s a flop.”
