Timbaland Opens Up About Jay-Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’
Timbaland is a heavy presence on Jay-Z‘s new album Magna Carta Holy Grail, boasting production credits on nearly half the record. The prolific producer gave an extensive interview to Diddy’s new music channel Revolt TV, peeling back the layers of Magna Carta Holy Grail, opening up on his own personal struggles, speaking on his experiences with Justin Timberlake and more.
Timbaland goes step by step behind many of the album’s tracks, and reveals that Magna Carta Holy Grail helped patch up his formerly-troubled relationship with Jay-Z. “Me and Jay fell out. I missed his 40th [birthday] . . . it was over petty stuff,” Timbaland begins. “It was more personal stuff and disagreements. It was not industry related . . . and I was wrong.”
While Timbaland was working with Timberlake on new music, Jay-Z sent a text to the producer to reconnect. Timbaland flew to Brooklyn and when the two met again, they simply shared a hug. “He was like, ‘What you been doin’, man?'” Timbaland says. “I said, ‘Man, I’m right back. I got my mind right . . . I get it. I understand life a little more.'” The interview grants a touching, revealing look into one of the biggest creative forces behind Magna Carta Holy Grail.
