New Drake Song ‘All Me’ Credits Himself for Success
Not only has Drake made it clear that he started from the bottom, his new song “All Me” reinforces the idea that his meteoric rise was, in fact, all him. With help from 2 Chainz and Big Sean (and a sample from Aziz Ansari’s “Randy” character), Drake emphasizes his self-made come up and bank account size over a gorgeous bed of subdued synths; when it drops after the hook, it’s into hollow bell rings, a warped monastic vocal sample and a characteristically ridiculous 2 Chainz verse. For his part, Drake’s got rhymes about positive reinforcement (“Cause myself just told myself you the motherfucking man / You don’t need no help”) and being “on a roll like Cottonelle.”
Seven Hot Hip-Hop Crews: Young Money
“All Me” is the latest in a slew of cuts from Drake in the lead up to his third LP, Nothing Was the Same, out September 17th, though there’s no word yet on whether the track will appear on the album. Recently the rapper dropped verses on a remix of Migos’ “Versace” and “Over Here” by PartyNextDoor, along with two new solo cuts, “The Motion,” and “Jodeci Freestyle” (which sparked controversy over a J. Cole guest verse that referred unkindly to autism).
Following the album’s release, Drake will embark on a massive 41-date North American tour that kicks off with a just-announced spot at the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas on September 21st.
