Maya Jane Coles Gets Funeral Serenade in ‘Burning Bright’ – Premiere
Rising U.K. DJ and producer Maya Jane Coles teams with Kim Ann Foxman, formerly of Hercules and Love Affair, for this stellar dance floor number “Burning Bright.” Mined from the British-Japanese artist’s debut album, Comfort, this accompanying clip lures finds Foxman singing to Coles, who rests in an open casket in a house of worship littered with overturned chairs.

“The video to ‘Burning Bright’ was creatively a team effort to come up with something hopefully a little different,” Coles tells Rolling Stone. The clip features Foxman and was directed by Thomas Knights, who has previously worked with the likes of Marina and the Diamonds, Karin Park and Willy Moon. “We were all really happy with how it turned out so I hope others like it to,” Coles says.
Coles, 25, who takes vocal turns with guest singers – including Park, Tricky, Alpine’s Catherine Pockson and Miss Kittin – on Comfort, lends pop and indie touches to her distinct take on house music. U.K.-based EDM aficionados can experience this firsthand when she goes behind the decks at this weekend’s Eastern Electrics Festival in Knebworth on Friday August 2nd.
