Karmin Declare Independence in ‘Acapella’ – Premiere
“All the harmony went fallin’ out of key,” Karmin lament in “Acapella,” the duo’s new ode to independence born from disappointment. For the lead single off Karmin’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming new album, Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan turn their signature mix of electro-pop and rap into an aggressive, thumping kiss-off, with shout-outs to Olive Garden and gluten-free living. So what do you do when your rich boyfriend isn’t all he’s cracked up to be? You hit it solo.
Who Is Karmin? From YouTube Stardom to ‘Saturday Night Live’
Heidemann and Noonan first broke out with a series of viral-hit covers of artists like Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, before striking off into their own territory with their first album of original material, Hello, in May 2012. The new single carries on their theme of casting off old constraints and going your own way.
“Acapella was created almost exclusively with human voices,” says Heidemann. “We flipped the original meaning of Acapella to mean ‘D.I.Y.’ or should we say ‘D.I.A. – Do It Acapella!'”
