Azealia Banks Trips Out in Surreal ‘Chasing Time’ Video
Azealia Banks has followed up the surprise release of her long-awaited debut, Broke with Expensive Taste with a wild new video for her new single, “Chasing Time.”
Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the black and white clip is a frantic, outrageous mix of fabulous outfits, surreal digital animation and pristine dance sequences. It’s the perfect visual to accompany “Chasing Time,” which shrewdly balances an eclectic mix of influences from Banks’ quick spitting over furious electronic production to the pop-diva hook she lays on top of Nineties house synth stabs.
Broke with Expensive Taste comes three years after Banks launched herself into the public consciousness on the strength of her breakout single, “212.” While Banks quickly scored a major label deal and dropped the 1991 EP and the Fantasea mixtape in 2012, her debut LP was repeatedly delayed, and the musician regularly found herself at the center of online feuds with artists like the Stone Roses and Angel Haze.
Banks was released from her contract with Universal earlier this year, and last week released Broke with Expensive Taste Beyoncé-style with the help of production company, Prospect Park. The album boasts beats from go-to producers like AraabMuzik and Machinedrum, while also featuring a guest verse from Theophilus London and an unlikely collaboration with Ariel Pink.
