Phil Spector’s Wife Sends Message of Devotion in ‘P.S. I Love You’ – Premiere
Rachelle Spector found easy inspiration for her new song “P.S. I Love You”: her husband, famed record producer Phil Spector, and the love letters they’ve written back and forth since he began serving a prison sentence in 2009 for the murder of Lana Clarkson.
Rachelle Spector is convinced her husband was wrongly convicted, and “P.S. I Love You” – part of an upcoming five-song EP – is in part a means of helping to keep his case in the public eye. It’s also a demonstration of her devotion.
Phil Spector’s Wife Says HBO Biopic Is Not Accurate
“I always would joke with him, ‘To know Phil is to love Phil,'” Rachelle Spector tells Rolling Stone. “If people knew him like I do, they would fall in love with him. Even the first five minutes of talking to him, he engages you. You get this sense of kindness. He’s so gentle, warm, loving.”
Rachelle Spector wrote the song as a homage to her husband’s first Number One hit, the Teddy Bears’ 1958 single “To Know Him Is to Love Him,” which Phil Spector wrote about his father. “That paved the way for up-and-coming producers and musicians and how music is perceived today,” she says.
The record producer and his court trials are the subject of the recent HBO biopic Phil Spector, starring Al Pacino and Helen Mirren. Though Rachelle Spector said the way Pacino portrayed her husband was “cheesy,” she said the film casts doubt on Phil Spector’s guilt in a way that could help in an ongoing appeals process.
