Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’ Named Song That Most Changed Country Music
Last night, ABC counted down the songs that most influenced the course of country music, and the assembled panel of artists and experts were apparently crazy for Patsy Cline. The timeless “Crazy” — written by Willie Nelson — topped the list.
“The song ‘Crazy’ is so relatable, undeniably it’s a classic country song. I think 50 years from now, we’re still going to be talking about it,” said Kacey Musgraves, who performed Cline’s signature ballad on the 15 Songs That Changed Country Music special. Watch the performance above.
George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” came in at Number Two, while Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” rounded out the Top Three. But the countdown didn’t only focus on country’s past. Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” landed at Number Four, Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” was Number 11 and Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying” was Number 14. Dolly Parton and “I Will Always Love You” kicked off the list at Number 15.
Musgraves is nominated for two awards at tomorrow’s 48th Annual CMA Awards, airing at 8 p.m. on ABC. The Texas native vies for Female Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year, for her progressive anthem “Follow Your Arrow.”
