See A$AP Rocky Pay Tribute to Pimp C in ‘Multiply’ Video
A$AP Rocky waxes poetic on realness and getting credit for being the “motherfucking lord of this fashion shit” on “Multiply,” the Harlem rapper’s first solo track since putting out his debut album, Long.Live.A$AP, last year. The song starts with Rocky speaking the line, “For all the real niggas died/ Fake niggas gonna multiply,” and Three 6 Mafia‘s Juicy J warning him against the fakes, and throughout the track Rocky pays tribute to the realness of deceased UGK rapper Pimp C, repeating the line, “Even in my will, keep it trill to the day I peel.”
Rocky premiered the song with a video – which he co-directed with Shomi Patwary (Clipse, Mobb Deep and A$AP Ferg) – on the website FlackoJodyeSeason.com. The website had hosted a countdown timer, which prompted speculation from fans as to what it he would be sharing when the clock ran out. Since the video has come out, Rocky has been teasing a “sophomore album coming soon” on Facebook, though he hasn’t given any more detail.
Rocky has spent most of 2014 lying relatively low, making guest appearances on songs by Schoolboy Q and Lykke Li, among others, and collaborating with Baauer on a dizzying montage they dubbed “Riot Rave.” He also participated in the making of a five-part film about his career, SVDDXNLY, which Noisey produced and documented his infamous brawl at South by Southwest 2012.
The rapper also made headlines when a concertgoer sued him for allegedly slapping her at last year’s Made in America festival. The fan reported that the alleged altercation left her with “muscle spasm, migraine headaches, intense pain that radiates from her shoulders and into her arms and fingers and exacerbation of pre-existing conditions.” That case is still ongoing.
