Justin Bieber Hopes Anne Frank ‘Would Have Been a Belieber’
Justin Bieber concluded a visit to the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam last week with a guestbook entry that said he hoped the teen Holocaust victim II would have been a fan.
“Truly inspiring to be able to come here,” the singer wrote, according to a post Friday on the Anne Frank House Facebook page (and first reported by the BBC). “Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.”

Bieber, on tour in the Netherlands, toured the house where Frank and her family spent two years hiding from the Nazis who occupied Amsterdam during World War II. When the family was betrayed in 1944, Frank and her sister Margot were sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died of typhus in March 1945. Frank was 15.
The journal she kept while in hiding was first published in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl, which has become a powerful symbol of the Holocaust. Bieber’s suggestion that Frank would have been a fan of his was not well received online, with a flood of comments on the museum’s Facebook page criticizing the singer for his ego.
Bieber hasn’t responded to the negative reaction, which has included snarky tweets from, among others, Lena Dunham, Harry Shearer and Rainn Wilson, who tweeted, “‘Who’s this Anne Frank & why is he visiting her HOUSE? Are they dating?! OMG!’ -93% of beliebers.”
The singer’s gaffe is the latest in a string of recent incidents, which have included leaving a pet monkey with German customs officials, allegedly spitting on a neighbor during a verbal dispute, showing up two hours late to a performance in London and getting into a screaming match with paparazzi.
