Watch Garth Brooks Sing the Sentimental ‘Mom’
The man against the machine was just a man with a guitar on today’s Good Morning America. Garth Brooks was up early to perform a solo acoustic version of his poignant new tune, simply titled “Mom.” (Watch above.)
“It should’ve been written 50 years ago,” the country icon told show host Robin Roberts before serenading her with the Don Sampson and Wynn Varble-penned song. “It’s a conversation between God and this unborn child, [who is] about ready to go down to earth. And when God describes what a mom is… whew, it kills me. It’s a beautiful song; I wish I’d written it. ‘The Dance’ is my favorite Garth Brooks song ever, but if there was ever a song that could ever rival it — just because of the context of it… You know I’m a mama’s boy.”
Brooks hopped on a plane just after this morning’s show to head to Minneapolis, where his world tour with wife Trisha Yearwood is currently on a seven-night run. He continues to announce one city at a time on the trek, with his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma as the most recently added stop. He’ll perform three shows there, January 15—17.
“It’s easier than I remember it,” Brooks says of touring, which he just resumed this year after a 13 year break from the road. “It’s fantastic, because they do all the work!”
“Mom” is one of 14 new songs on Man Against Machine, Brooks’ new album set for release on November 11th. The singer co-wrote three of the project’s tunes, including the title track.
